When I was 18 I ran away to sea. I spent 5 years in the navy and traveled through out South East Asia and the western Pacific region and Japan. My father was military and I lived in Europe as a child in the early 1960s. I've lived all over the US from West Coast to East and my studio is currently on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. Exposures I was most influenced in my teens by the work of the illustrator Frank Frazetta whose work had a signature style that I fell in love with. Later on I became exposed to other artists like Rembrandt, seeing some of his pen and ink drawings in a museum. For a time I toured around to all the science fiction and comic conventions I could get to, showing and selling my work. At this time my work started to become larger and while I was still doing fantasy art I was doing canvases 5 and 6 feet on a side. I eventually received a BA in fine art from a small southwestern college. In college I began seriously drawing from models as well as carving stone. I learned the rudiments of bronze casting, pouring by hand. Most of my work lately is figurative with erotic overtones. Fantasy illustration is always somewhat erotic and I still go back to doing a bit now and then. After college I apprenticed at the Johnson Atelier in Mercerville, NJ. There I worked on the sculptures of Seward Johnson, Kiki Smith and many others. I feel like I'm still trying to find my voice and I'm influenced by every piece of art and music I'm exposed to as well as culture in general.
